Title: IDENTIFICATION MARKING OF PARTS (NAVSEA)

Identification marking of individual parts within the systems, equipment, assemblies, subassemblies, components, groups, sets or kits, and of spare and repair parts shall be done in accordance with the applicable specifications and drawings. If marking is not specified, then marking shall be done in accordance with the following: a. Parts not manufactured to Government specifications shall be marked in accordance with generally accepted commercial practice. b. Parts manufactured to Government specifications shall be marked as follows: (i) Electrical parts - that is, all parts in elec- trical equipment and electrical parts when used in equipment which is not electrical in nature (e.g., electric controls and motors in a hy- draulic system) shall be identified and marked in accordance with MIL-STD-1285A, or, where MIL-STD-1285A does not cover such a part, in accordance with MIL-STD-130F. (ii) Electronic parts - that is, all parts in elec- tronic equipment and elcetronic parts when used in equipment which are not electronic in nature (e.g., electronic fuel controls in some engines) - shall be identified and marked in accordance with Requirement 67 of MIL-STD-454J. (iii) Parts other than electrical or electronic parts (as described above) shall be identified and marked in accordance with MIL-STD-130F. In cases where parts are so small as not to permit identifi- cation marking as provided above such parts shall be appro- priately coded so as to permit ready identification.
